I have windows XP SP3 but i have no windows xp disc, and recently had to bring my computer in to be fixed, because i couldn't un-install my computer fully because i don't have that windows XP disc. Im sick of having to bring my computer in to be fixed. it sets me back at least 80 euro.
If i buy vista, would i get a disc with it?
opinions please!
Alright Mate,
Yeah, you would get a disc if you bought Vista, but I would seriously recommend AGAINST it. This is for several reasons.
1. Hardware Requirements - Vista has much higher requirements than XP does. For one, Vista needs about 700MB of RAM just to tick over, whereas XP can get by with about 150-200MB. It also takes up about 7-8GB of hard drive space for a clean install, and you need a dedicated GFX card if you want the fancier visual effects.
2. Backwards Compatibility - Depending on the age of your PC, you may have trouble finding drivers for some pieces of hardware, ie sound, ethernet, gfx etc.
3.UAC - User Account Control (or UAC) is a piece of software built into Vista which basically asks you if yes or no for any changes made to the system. This sounds all well and good, but it does it ALL THE TIME!! And is incredibly frustrating. Even more so, theres no customisation to it, it's just either on or off.
4. Windows 7 - Vista has been widely regarded by most people as an utter failure. As a result, Microsoft are bringing forward the release of their latest OS, Windows 7. I've tested a beta built and I'm currently testing the Release Candidate build. All in all, it's massive improvement over Vista. Windows 7 is set to be released before christmas, with October 23rd being thrown around alot. If I were you, I'd hold off for this.
This is just a small list of Vista's shortcomings. If you need an XP disc, ask a mate who knows there computers if they've got a copy, or if you have a local PC shop they could probably burn you a copy. Alternatively, go to http://www.microsoft.com/worldwide/, select your region and you can request a new disc direct from Microsoft.
Hope this helps, feel free to ask if you have any more questions.

I can do a copy of XP for you with full working code. Just PM me your address if you are interested. A few friends of mine have had the same copy as mine and i got it from a friend who is a network engineer, we all have had no problems when we have had to upgrade the service packs and checks for authentication etc.

I think Apple can now see this as a drastic business oppertunity to sell their Macs at give away prices lol.
