I cannot copy my music to a cd-r disc but i can copy them to a cd-rw no problems, also my drive won't read my Football Manager 2009 pc dvd disc, luckily i can play the game through Steam.
why can't i copy my music to a cd-r??????
Hmm, it's an odd one.
It sort of depends which program you're using to write the songs. If you're just using the built-in Windows CD burning software, don't. It's awful beyond belief.
Try and BitTorrent a copy of Nero if at all possible, otherwise, trying burning through a media program like iTunes. In iTunes, just create a quick playlist and drag in the music you want to burn, then just click the burn icon.
With regards to the game DVD, do the obvious and check for smudges/scratches, but also check to make sure that the top layer (where the label is) is not scratched or chipped at all. This reflective top layer is actually more important to CDs/DVDs working than the bottom, as without the reflective layer the laser in the CD/DVD drive has nothing to reflect off, and just shines through the clear plastic of the disc.
Hope this helps, give me a shout if your still having trouble.

Thanks for your reply mate, im using a thing called RecordNow! Deluxe to burn my music, it works fine on any disc "ie" cd-rw or dvd-rw but not a cd-r. I even used s program called BurnAware Free and the exact same. i think my computer just can't read cd-r's but then again when i put a blank cd-r in to the RecordNow! Deluxe it says 60 odd minutes free, but when i try to burn it won't have any of it.:(
i'll try a bittorent nero and see how that goes and i'll let ya know. :)
No worries mate. If the software will recognise that there's a cd in the drive, it sounds like a possible software issue rather than hardware. There's one thing you could try, but only as a last resort, as its a bit risky if you cock it up.
Press the Windows key + R
Type regedit
Expand Hkey_Local_Machine
Expand System
Expand CurrentControlSet
Expand Control
Expand Class
Click on the entry beginning with 4D36E965
In the box on the right, if they're there, delete
LowerFilters and
UpperFilters
Close regedit, restart the PC, and give it another shot. This is only really a last resort if you have no joy with Nero.
Alternatively, you could always look into just buying a new CD/DVD drive. You can get them for about £18 on the internet, they're a doddle to fit and sometimes they even include burning software.
Hope this all makes sense and helps with your problems.

I downloaded Nero from bittorrent but it wouldn't open because the numer key that came with it was wrong, so i generated the key over and over again to no avail. So i deleted that from my computer.
I then tried the above and deleted LowerFilters and
UpperFilters {which were both there} but now i get a message saying "No Recorder" in the RecordNow! Deluxe.

and my drive is a "Plextor PX-755A"
just one drive for all the cd's.
I think i might talk to a friend who knows more about this than me and buy a CD/DVD drive or have a computer shop fit one in for me as i don't have a clue how to :o
But thanks for your help!
