Not the first time i have ran into a problem when trying to burn a film, but i have a problem of while the film is getting annalized and before the film gets ready to be written to disc the computer shuts down. On reboot it says the system shutdown due to over heating!! My setup was built as a gaming machine, and some heavy gaming goes on and i have the relavent fans to keep everything nice and cool when in full throttle. So why does it shut down when trying to burn a film to disc?

This is just a possible reason but that is a processor heavy thing to do, not the burning bit, but the converting, It could be your processor overheating forcing the shutdown.
You can on some machines check the processor heat in the bios. Anyhing above 60 degrees celsius can be dangerous.
It depends what CPU you're running in your system. AMD chips will almost always run hotter than Intel chips, and can sometimes run in the high 70s. I saw an AMD chip running at 112 degrees C once without any issues. If you have an Intel chip, you don't want anything higher than 60-70 degrees C.
Try running Speedfan (http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php) which is an excellent program for check temperatures of various components. One thing to bear in mind is that the temperatures thresholds are set unnecessarily low, so some temps may show the overheating icon (a flame) even if they're not actually overheating.
Hope this helps, Good luck burning your DVDs!

Thanx guys, going to test that now THL. It's only started happening the past month - yes it is an AMD 64 Processor.

I have now ran Speedfan whilst Nero was transcoding. Here is the result - the numbers are what it was at during it's highest but the temperatures did go down a notch or two when the pc shutdown again.
GPU: 56C
Temp 1: 125C
Temp 2: 37C
Temp 3: -128C
HD0: 32C
Core: 89C
Core: 55C
Ambient: 0C
Now i don't understand all this what is going on in my machine, so what can be done to rectify it? Does the problem lie with the fan, could i speed it up a bit? Does having a hard drive almost full affect the temperatures? Can anything be tweaked in Nero to help it finish the job? Or shall i just use a different programme to burn films, and which is the best one if so? Now i know why my gaming is ok with the heat because there is a great big fook off fan fixed to my graphics card hehe.

make sure none of the fans heatsinks and everything are dislodged/disconnected, then try re-thermal compound-ing the processor and heatsink. AMD64 chips are insane with heat so the compound can dry quickly.. although if you're gaming with it and it hasn't crashed while gaming its confusing. Possibly the hard drive is playing up... You can get very weird problems as a drive / install starts playing up.. Might be time for a reinstall

Thanx for the info choco, i have since took the thing apart and gave it a clean. The fans where mucky, especially the one on my CPU. I havn't attempted to burn again but i have ran the Speedfan and the readings are pretty much the same as before. I did have a niggling feeling that it could be my hard drive, so i will spring clean that soon and try again.
